How Reduce Your Chance of Getting a Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The most effective way to prevent sexual transmission of STDs is to abstain from sexual contact or avoid the contact body parts or fluids which can lead to the transfer of an STD.

No contact equals almost no risk. However, not all sexual activities involve contact. There is cybersex, phonesex, or masturbation from a distance and these sexual methods are ways of avoiding contact.

It is highly recommended that both partners get tested for STDs before initiating sexual relations. Testing for STD can not detect all forms of STDs. Some STDs have an incubation period before they can be detected by a blood test. Others STDs, such as HPV, may be impossible to detect with current medical procedures as they may be asymptomatic.

Even after testing, it is advisable for both parties to continue using protection.

Since some STDs such as HIV & herpes are incurable, it is highly recommended to know your partner very well before considering unprotected sex.

Vaccines are available that protect against some viral STDs, such as Hepatitis B and some types of HPV. Vaccination and testing that antibodies are present before initiation of sexual relations with someone with Hepatitis B or some forms of HPV is mandatory to help give the best chance of protection.
